Pilgrimages and Sabbaticals

In How to Find and Follow Your Calling, the age old longing and instinct for pilgrimages and sabbaticals is encouraged as a means to slow down and listen to our hearts. There can be power in an inner quest being explored through an outer journey. Such experiences create an opportunity to reflect, expand our world and raise our awareness. Consider packing How to Find and Follow Your Calling as a companion on your journey. Like the pilgrims of Compostela de Santiago, Glastonbury, Jerusalem, Mecca, The Himalayas and  Machu Picchu, you establish an intention. What is the question you would take with you?

In the book, an extensive range of Passion Paths are presented. Annie reflects on her own fascination with pilgrimages and the value of sabbaticals, "From a young age, I have followed the Paths of The Seeker and The Adventurer. In recent years, I have travelled to some of the "power points" of the planet: places such as Uluru in Central Australia, Nikko in Japan, Findhorn in North East Scotland, Ubud in Bali, Assisi and Rome. Give yourself permission to go on a callings walkabout!"

We encourage the seeker to identify their particular interests, hobbies, passions, deeply held memories and longings and how these may translate into a pilgrimage or sabbatical. For instance: a pilgrimage to immerse yourself in a culture you are captivated by; a social issue, trend or field of research; a surfing, trekking or a skiing journey. Are there animals you feel drawn to? You may be fascinated by particular animal's migratory patterns, habitats or survival. Do you feel called to travel to a natural environment - The Amazon, The Tarkine in Tasmania, Patagonia, Alaska or witness the Northern Lights in Norway? Are you intrigued by certain times, places or people in history-the pyramids of Egypt, the ruins of Pompeii, Nepal, The Beatles, Van Gogh, karate masters in Japan, Saint Francis of Assisi or the street art of New York City? Maybe you long to retrace the footsteps of your past or those of relatives or ancestors.

It may seem a luxury, but out of a conversation and a new awareness, something fresh may be revealed. You may make friends and connections outside your traditional age and stage of life. Such an experience could open your eyes to new possibilities which circumvent the rut of a more predictable path.

We are here to learn a lesson, what is yours?
